The Opole Voivodeship (The town of Opolskie) is located in southern Poland and is bordered by the Lower Silesian Voivodeship to the west, the Greater Poland Voivodeship and Łódź Voivodeship to the north, the Silesian Voivodeship to the east, and the Czech Republic to the south.

Background

After the fragmentation of Poland in 1138, Opole belonged to the Principality of Silesia, but soon became a principality itself. It belonged to Upper Silesia, which disintegrated into further principalities, which partly came to Bohemia and partly to Poland. The Bohemian part passed to the Habsburgs in 1526 and to Prussia in 1742. After the First World War, Upper Silesia was divided and Opole became part of the Weimar Republic. in 1939, the eastern part of Upper Silesia was occupied by the Wehrmacht, and in 1945 by the Red Army. Since 1945, Opole has been a separate voivodeship, although it received its current form in 1999.

The journey is recommended by car, bus or train. The road conditions and the rail network are very good. The arrival is recommended from Wroclaw via the A4. The A4 is very well developed here. By plane you can fly to the airports in Katowice and Wroclaw from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
